Understanding Debt Relief Credit Counseling
![]() |
Debt relief credit counseling is something many people decide to take advantage of. After all, the average American has at least one credit card, with most people having numerous credit cards. Some people have credit cards that are maxed out. If you're one of them, you may find it difficult or impossible to pay even the minimum amount each month on all of your accounts. You may also have unpaid medical bills or other unsecured debts which may or may not have been turned over to a collection agency. Rather than allowing your debt to continue unchecked or filing for bankruptcy, you should consider some sort of counseling debt relief service.
There are many companies and agencies in existence today designed to help you get out of debt. Consumer Credit Counseling, or CCC, is a nonprofit agency with locations around the United States that offers their services absolutely free of charge. They can help you lower your monthly payments by contacting and negotiating with your creditors. By law, once your creditors are contacted by CCC and informed you are working with them, all correspondence goes to CCC rather than you. This means no more collection calls coming to your home and/or workplace.
One of the best things about agencies like CCC is that you only have to pay one payment each month to them rather than sending off all those checks to your numerous creditors. The agency takes your payment and splits it evenly among your creditors. Over time, your creditors are paid in full. Agencies like Consumer Credit Counseling can also teach you how to repair your credit rating and even make it better with the smart use of credit.
There are also debt relief credit counseling companies who do operate for profit that can be just as effective as Consumer Credit Counseling and work in very much the same way. If you do not have a CCC office near you, you might need to go with one of these companies. You will often see commercials for debt relief companies on television. They offer you the ability to consolidate your debts into one affordable monthly payment and like Consumer Credit Counseling, works with your creditors to stop those unwanted collection calls.
